∞ permalink I first saw the Kinks in Mansfield Odeon, Nottinghamshire, maybe in early '65 ? They'd just released 'You really Got Me' & were wearing the same hunting gear, red velvet jacket, black velvet collar, white jodhpurs and riding boots, as on the cover of their first L.P. The Stones were also on the bill, but it was the Ronettes who closed the show. Six years later we held our wedding reception in Muswell Hill, and there they were.... The Kinks, sipping at their ice-cool beer, lazing on a Sunny Afternoon, January 23rd 1971
I saw them a couple of times after that , in concert. I was always a big fan of Ray Davies & the Kinks' music. I think along with Satisfaction, Pretty Woman, Be-Bop-a-Lula, and I Saw Her Standing There, oh and possibly Twist'n Shout....You Really Got Me is our most frequently performed number.
