With the possibility of two major shows next summer, both consisting of large rock'n roll paintings, this winter i'll be juggling between figurative oil painting and collage. The last few months have been cathartic in opening up my intuitive faculties - creating quite complex abstract compositions from piles of waste. Knee deep in posters, card and wood fragments, over size jig-saw puzzles, folders bulging with photos, drawings, printed matter, with titles like : 'cloud/sky/sea', 'Asia', 'movies', 'hands and feet', 'revolution', ' wallpaper patterns' ...and many more. When putting together these seemingly disparate elements , i feel more like a detective examining tiny clues from a crime i can only guess at. But there is a solution to be found, an underlying structure, which can only be made manifest through a total selfless involvement. That's where the cathartic and therapeutic aspects are explored. By allowing the subconscious to flow through with as little censoring as possible. To surrender the ego to a greater force. To be enraptured by the aesthetic considerations of balance , harmony and colour, is to essentially transcend the physical, the mundane , and to enter a realm where there are no rules. no constraints, no boundaries between myself and the so called 'universe' out there. Put more simply. Some things work and some things just don't work, because they don't fit, and they were never meant to fit.....like some people are meant for each other and others definitely not, and so forth.
So, some of the time i'll be having fun making huge images of rock & movie icons, and when this becomes too tiring, i'll switch to collage and give my brain a rest . Happily i'll be breaking off from periodically from these isolated insular activities, to perform with the band, and to write songs, which are slightly different disciplines. Music is also the opportunity to cut loose, and express myself in quite a different manner......demented fan in heavy disguise !
The 'rock' show dates have to be confirmed, but one will happen in Palma de Mallorca, the other in Manchester , England. I'll post details as they come in.
